Day 20

Progress has been slow, but steady.  The weather has still been unreliable, especially for painting outdoors.  With the last bit of aluminum flashing covering the overhanging rafters I am happy to report that there are NO BEES!  However, there have been wild turkeys and white tail deer.  It is good to know that dinner is readily available in these woods.  It will be very rewarding to finish the siding on the first floor, so I look forward to the next string of sunny days.

Day 19

Due to the unrelenting rain I was not able to work on the cabin for a couple weeks.  Finally a sunny day, and plenty of work to do.  It was much of the same process as doing the front siding, except it was much easier not having to make a door!  Thanks to the sun the paint dried quickly as I was cutting out windows and installing them.  There were no real hurdles to jump over, just having to focus and not being able to take breaks due to the rain forecast.  I'll take the work time I'm given, and am thankful I accomplished what I did.

Day 18

I covered the overhang with aluminum flashing, so the bees will not be able to bore into the wood.  I also installed a vent to allow the roof to breathe.

Day 16

It is much more difficult to work by myself.  Everything takes at least twice as long to accomplish.  I had to replace the vinyl window fins with homemade aluminum ones due to cracks.  I finished covering the plywood with tar paper, painted and cut the 5/8" T-111 siding, put the windows in, and started installing the siding.  Also, I got a bee suit and went to war with the carpenter bees boring holes in the cabin.  Aaron 1, bees 0.
